Hackers use gov.gg emails to try to gain access to the States' IT system.
The States IT system was hit by an attempted cyber attack yesterday (27 June) using its email accounts as a potential way in.
Ge Drossaert, the chief digital and information officer, says it was detected quickly and neither data nor systems were compromised.
He says everything has been returned to normal: "Systems are operating as usual today, 28 June. Some users had to re-identify themselves before being able to log back into systems.”
Deputy Mark Helyar used Facebook to complain about this last night, saying deputies had to set up a WhatsApp group to communicate.
It seems clear that the attempted hack was not communicated to him.
He described the process of having to contact a remote helpdesk to get a new password without any notice, after being logged out of his account, as 'inept' and an 'utter shambles.'
