Beere Wins Silver For Guernsey

Guernsey bowler Lucy Beere has won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

She was beaten in the final of the women's singles by Ellen Ryan.

After a competitive battle, the Australian came out on top by 21 shots to 17.

This is Guernsey's first medal of the competition and the island's first Commonwealth Games medal of any kind for 28 years.

The 40-year-old guaranteed herself a medal by beating Malaysia's Siti Zalina Ahmad in the semi-final.

It's the first time that Guernsey has got better than bronze since 1990 and only the seventh Commonwealth Games medal in the island's history.

Chief Minister Deputy Peter Ferbrache has called it a 'remarkable achievement.'

"I have worked with her for years and know what a great competitor, and lovely person, she is. We are all so proud. Magnificent."
