Channel Island musicians record Christmas song at Abbey Road

Musicians who have recorded a Christmas song with the London Symphony Orchestra now want to get island school choirs singing it.

A new Christmas song 'Christmas Dream', written and performed by two Channel Island musicians, was recorded earlier this year at the famous Abbey Road Studios.

'Christmas Dream' by Adam Reece from Jersey, and Guernsey's Emily Fern, was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra in April.

Also included on the track is Bez from Happy Mondays on triangle and Phil Hartnoll from Orbital on synth.

Adam told us how the single came about:

“We weren’t planning on writing a Christmas song at all. One evening, after a long day in the studio working on other material, I played a few notes almost absentmindedly.

"Emily immediately said it sounded like a Christmas song. What began as a bit of fun turned into something unexpected. Within minutes the song seemed to write itself, as if it had been waiting for us all along."

The pair said they soon realised they had something special, and plans to record with a brass quintet were rapidly upgraded to to a day session with the 50-piece London Symphony Orchestra at the iconic and world famous Studio 2.

Adam says they are now looking to record the song with school choirs in Jersey:

"We'd love schools to take part, to involve everyone in celebrating Christmas and showcase the talent that is across the Channel Islands as well.

"We're hoping it's going to be the next Christmas number one!"
