Fire Crews Called To Collision In Alderney

The Alderney Fire Brigade were called out to an incident on Friday evening (2 February) where two vehicles had collided.

By the time the crews arrived, both drivers had exited their cars and were being checked over by St John Ambulance.

Fire crews cleared debris from the site, which included lithium ion batteries from one of the vehicles - an electric car.

Alderney Fire Brigade hadn't encountered a battery-powered vehicle before and say it created some complications due to the potential risk of ignition from damaged batteries.

They enlisted the help of a forklift from the States of Alderney Recycling team to remove and separate the cars.

After just over an hour, the fire crew had cleared the road of debris and spilt fluids and returned to the station.
