Fog causes flight chaos at Guernsey Airport

A weekend of thick drizzle and hill fog has led to multiple delays or cancellations.

Guernsey Airport is getting back to normal this morning, 23 February, after two days of weather disruption.

Saturday was particularly bad, with only two Aurigny flights able to land.

The rest of the day's schedule was either cancelled, or planes diverted to Jersey and UK airports.

Aurigny chartered a boat to get passengers back to Guernsey.

Sunday's visibility gradually improved and flights were eventually able to land from mid-afternoon.

The last from Gatwick got in just after 11.30pm and a number of other Aurigny flights missed the 9pm airport closure deadline, meaning they have to pay a fee to Guernsey Ports.

This is £1,853 per aircraft landing up until 10pm, then £5,722 per aircraft landing between 10pm and 11.35pm.
