A new initiative will launch in Guernsey this September to help with early diagnoses of serious health conditions.
Until December 2025, Guernsey Chest and Heart and Public Health will provide free blood pressure and cholesterol checks.
High readings are risk factors for heart attacks, strokes and dementia.
Guernsey's Director of Public Health, Dr Nicola Brink, says it is always better to act before serious problems emerge.
“This is important because high blood pressure and high blood lipids occur frequently, and many people are unaware that they have these conditions.
"Early detection and treatment can reduce the risk of heart disease, strokes and dementia.
"This is part of our programme to help islanders live longer and healthier lives.
"It is a great opportunity to reach more people in the community, especially those who might not realise they are at risk.
Manager of Guernsey Chest and Heart Centre Caroline Ogier says they want to reach as many people as possible.
“We are pleased to be working in partnership with Public Health to help islanders take control of their health. These simple checks could prevent serious illness down the line.
"This service, in addition to the ongoing five-yearly screening programme, will run from the Guernsey Chest and Heart Centre at the PEH.
"Certain community-based settings such as community centres will also offer these tests.
"We will be looking to extend this programme to Alderney residents, if the pilot is successful.”
The free drop-in clinic will run out of the Chest and Heart Centre at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
Islanders will be able to drop by without an appointment or doctor referral on Monday and Wednesday afternoons or Saturday mornings.
