Officials in the Gironde region have told tourists to stay away and are considering evacuating the city of Bordeaux as the flames 'arrive at the city's gates'.
President Macron will hold a crisis meeting with his ministers today, as wildfires rage across France.
An estimated 42-thousand hectares have burned in the region, an area four times the size of Paris.
It is now so huge that it has spun its own cloud, which is creating its own winds and lightning, further igniting more fires.
The number of firefighters mobilised has grown to two-and-a-half thousand, backed by 18 planes and helicopters.
Steve Pallot flew into Bordeaux on Friday, but has already arranged to leave for Paris:
"As we were coming into land, we saw the fires; it didn't look very nice
"We arrived into the centre of Bordeaux, and there was smog overhead and a very strong smell of wood burning.
"It was quite uncomfortable, but we just made the most of it, we ended up buying masks on Saturday morning to walk around the town.
"We had our flight cancelled today because the airport was prioritising water carriers.
"So, we booked to go to Paris by train, our flight will get us back on Tuesday."
In central Spain, more than 75-thousand people have been moved out of their homes and a further 30 thousand ordered to shelter in place.
