Guernsey by-election countdown

With days to go before Guernsey's first ever islandwide by-election we look at the logistics and the candidates.

Guernsey goes to the polls on 29th April to elect a replacement for disgraced and imprisoned deputy Jonathan Le Tocq.

It is the first ever islandwide by-election and is being organised within a budget of £75,000.

If you want to vote, then you must be registered to do so.

The States assures anyone who voted in the 2025 election that they do not need to re-register, but any new electors must do so by 25 April.

The process can be done online and takes a few minutes.

To keep costs down, the States have not produced a printed manifesto booklet but candidates do have a budget to electioneer.

The main voting station will be Beau Sejour's David Ferguson Hall but there are satellite polling stations at the St Martin’s Parish Hall, Castel Douzaine Room and the Vale Douzaine Room.

Eleven candidates have put their names forward and here is a brief look at their manifestos, in alphabetical order.

  • Luke Graham - previous candidate who champions affordable homes, healthcare reform and enhanced local food production.
  • Rob Harnish - previous candidate standing for public service reform, affordable housing and equal access to jobs for all.
  • Sam Haskins - a deputy in the last States, standing against GST and for government savings and upskilling the workforce.
  • Julie-Anne Headington - entrepreneur in finance, pro tax reform with protection for low earners, economic growth and equality.
  • Ross Le Brun - previous candidate and member of the Social Security board, champions small business and affordable homes.
  • Carl Meerveld - a deputy from 2012 to 2025. Champions wind technology, affordable housing and reliable transport links.
  • Tamara Menteshvili - previous candidate, wants to grow financial services, diversify the economy and develop affordable homes.
  • Stephen Rouxel - led the Chamber of Commerce, champions economic growth, tax reform to encourage investment.
  • Nikki Symons - previous candidate, former government employee who wants scrutiny on spending and affordable healthcare.
  • Andy Taylor - a deputy in the last States, standing for practical ways to make housing affordable and a review of population policy.
  • Jonathan Wilson - anti-GST and pro tidal and battery technology and negotiating favourable terms for long stays in France.

If a candidate has provided a manifesto, then that can be found here.

Polling takes place on 29th April between 8am and 8pm.
