Citizens Advice Guernsey says it recorded 59 cases of domestic abuse in 2023, that involved 62 victims. That's up from 45 victims in 2022.
Of the 62 victims identified in 2023, the majority (48) were female and (63%) experienced 'hidden abuse'.
This includes psychological, coercive and financial abuse.
The charity's CEO Annie Ashmead says this shows there is growing recognition of non-physical types of abuse.
She says this is partially down to new laws that criminalise all forms of domestic abuse, that were approved by States of Guernsey in September 2023.

According to the States of Guernsey website “Every week, more than 11 incidents of domestic abuse are reported and Guernsey Police respond to over 600 calls a year”.
