Guernsey's treasury minister has revealed he and his wife are subjects of an investigation following a complaint alleging harassment.
Deputy Gavin St Pier says they were arrested last night (3 December), but released without charge.
He says the claim of harassment is 'a shocking allegation which we completely refute'.
This comes six days after the assembly overwhelmingly voted not to uphold a recommended suspension for Deputy St Pier after he breached the States Code of Conduct, by speaking to a national journalist about a local doctor and safeguarding complaints.
This led to the Channel Islands' parliamentary Standards Commissioner's resignation.
Deputy Gavin St Pier wrote about their arrest:
"We have stated unequivocally that we deny any wrongdoing whatsoever."
"This week we naively imagined that we could finally move on with our lives after nearly four years of complaints being lodged against me."
Head of Policy and Resources Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez shared this statement:
"Our Committee has been informed that Deputy St Pier was arrested on Wednesday morning on suspicion of harassment.
"I am currently off-island, representing Guernsey at the British Irish Council in Wales, so the other members of P&R and I have not yet had a chance to discuss this matter.
"We will consider it at the earliest opportunity and will provide an update once we have done so. Please bear with us in the meantime."
