Guernsey to host youth cricket world cup qualifiers

Guernsey will welcome the next generation of international cricketing talent.

From 22 to 31 July, Guernsey will host the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup – Europe Division 2 Qualifier.

Seven European teams will travel to Guernsey to compete in a series of matches across ten days at the island's four cricket grounds, College Field, KGV, Memorial Field and Port Soif.

The teams are Guernsey, Sweden, the Isle of Man, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and France.

The event forms part of the ICC pathway for the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2028.

Chief Operating Officer at Guernsey Cricket, Richard Headington, says they look forward to hosting the next generation of international cricketing talent.

"Hosting an ICC event is a real privilege for our island, and reflects all the hard work that has gone into developing cricket in Guernsey.

"This tournament will bring some of Europe’s most promising young players to the island, providing a real challenge for our local team, and is a fantastic opportunity for them to make a name for themselves in a major ICC pathway event.

"For our own young players, having a tournament of this calibre take place on home soil will also be hugely inspiring.

"We hope it encourages more young people to get involved in cricket and gives the wider community a chance to experience and support international sport on their doorstep."

Fixture dates, times and locations will be confirmed soon.
