La Vallette Plans Unveiled

Proposals for a development around the Ladies Pool are launched.

The Vive La Vallette Group has released its plans for major improvements to the site including a redeveloped kiosk, regeneration of the bathing pools facilities and a mixed use performance space.

The first phase of the plans, which are part of the States of Guernsey's Seafront Enhancement Area Programme, could cost £1.5M.

Last year, the States' Seafront Enhancement Area Steering Group invited suggestions from the public for 6 key sites along the seafront. In response, the not-for-profit group 'Vive La Vallette' was set up and submitted a proposal covering two Seafront Enhancement sites at La Vallette.

The group hope to have the project completed in time for the NatWest International Island Games in the island in 2021. They hope it will be used 365 days a year for music performances, art exhibitions, meetings and classes. They would like to see the facilities embraced by everyone whether they are in their 'bathers', work attire or cliff walking clothes.

The group say they do not want an upmarket restaurant but a kiosk or cafe selling good quality, affordable food.

David De La Mare from DLM Architects says accessibility to the building and surrounding outdoor areas is something they want to improve as much of the site has great potential but there is currently no wheelchair access.
