New States CEO Appointed 'Before The Autumn'

Mark de Garis will remain interim Chief Executive of Guernsey's States for the rest of this year.

He was appointed last August after Paul Whitfield was dismissed after eight years in the role.

Former States' Chief Executive Paul Whitfield.

Policy and Resources removed him, issuing a statement saying the committee 'recognised the need for a change in senior leadership' and had 'taken action to bring it about'.

Seven months on, P&R says it finalising its review of the role of Chief Executive and its recruitment process for a permanent replacement.

It says the job - leading the island's civil service  - will be advertised and that it hopes to have confirmed who the successful candidate is 'before the autumn'.

"The Committee has asked Mark de Garis to continue to act as interim Chief Executive until  the end of this year to ensure continuity of leadership and a smooth transition when the  appointment is in place."
