New website to catalogue Guernsey States work

A new website has launched to publish information and updates about the work of Guernsey’s parliament.

The creation of www.parliament.gg was directed by the Policy & Resources Committee to give islanders a clearer insight into the work of the newly-elected 38 deputies and two Alderney representatives.

The website, which was delivered within a budget of £120,000, promises to be easy to navigate.

It will catalogue the States Members' research, proposals and decisions.

A glossary of terms will also be featured to make it easier for the community to understand the way that parliament works.

States Greffier Simon Ross says the website is an important development for Guernsey’s parliament.

"Its launch has been timed to coincide with the election and it will be a key tool for States Members as they undertake the work of this States’ term.

"It will also be the chief resource for the public to inform themselves of what is happening in their parliament.

"Having worked closely with an internal project board and site developer TPA, we’re very pleased with the outcome.’

The State's Electronic Voting system will eventually be integrated into the website, so the community can easily see who is voting and how.

Head of the Public Service Boley Smillie says access to political information is important.

"The development and delivery of a new website with as much content as parliament.gg is a significant undertaking and our team have delivered a quality product.

"This site gives the community access to clear information about the work of the Assembly, including the introduction of real-time updates as decisions are made during States debates."
