Record number of seal pups being looked after by the GSPCA

10 seal pups are currently in the care of the GSPCA, the most in its 151 year history.

The Guernsey animal charity has now rescued a tenth seal pup by Fort Pezaries at Pleinmont.

It says recent, stormy weather has caused challenges for the young pups.

When discovered, she was wounded, dehydrated and underweight for her age, only weighing 20kg instead of around 40 to 50kgs.

The shelter is looking for a name for the pup and is welcoming suggestions from islanders.

She joins Didier, Maya, Faulkner and Jem from Jersey, and Valentine, Dolly, Doyle, Grinch and Baby Shark from Guernsey at the shelter.

In the coming weeks, the GSPCA is looking to release two of the pups back to the water.

It is advising people in Guernsey who discover seal pups not to approach them and to instead contact the GSPCA.
