States release timeline for Guernsey's April by-election

Key dates include the opening and closing of the electoral roll, the candidate nomination window and postal voting.

The States underline that everyone who joined the Guernsey electoral roll for last June's general election does not need to re-register.

But from today, until 25 April, the electoral roll will open for people who are not currently inscribed on it.

Colette Falla is the Registrar General of Electors:

"If you are already registered on the electoral roll, as you signed up for the 2025 General Election, then you don’t need to do anything else in order to vote in the by-election.

"If you didn’t register on the roll for the General Election but want to register for the by-election, or you’ve become eligible, that’s absolutely fine and you just need to sign up which takes only a couple of minutes."

The States have a dedicated by-election website, and you can find the link to register on that.

Candidates will have three full days to submit their nomination forms.

The Greffe will accept these from 9am on Monday 23 March until 4.30 pm on 25 March.

To keep costs down, there will not be a manifesto booklet but candidates will be able to publish their manifestos on the website.

The States Assembly and Constitution Committee has said that the budget it is working to is £75,000.

Smaller polling stations in St Martin's Parish Hall and the Vale and Castel Douzaine rooms will be available in addition to the main station at Beau Sejour.

The postal voting deadline is 10 April.

Guernsey goes to the polls to elect a replacement for disgraced former deputy Jonathan Le Tocq on 29 April.
