An ambitious project has been launched to build a care and respite home on the site of Mont a l'Abbe school.
The charity Variety has already pledged money towards it, with £1.5million needed over the next three years to make it happen.
The project was launched by charity ambassador Sandra Auckland at the 2026 CISI Jersey Branch Annual Dinner at the Royal Yacht.
Ms Auckland said:
"Unfortunately, care and respite is so lacking in Jersey, and it is so needed. We also want to help keep the many children on-island instead of being separated from their families and sent to the mainland due to not having the facilities needed here in Jersey.
"This is such a serious issue and needs to be addressed urgently.
"In 2022, it cost the Island over £4million to send youngsters off island to receive the care they need. We believe that this just shouldn’t be happening."
At last year's gala dinner, Variety launched another project to raise money to build an all-inclusive playground at Mont a l'Abbe.
£500,000 was raised, and building work has now started, with specialist equipment now on-island and set to be installed soon.
Ms Auckland added:
"We believe that no child should be left on the sidelines, and through this project we will ensure that children of all abilities can share in the joy of play, learning, and friendship.
