GB Surfing has awarded £10,000 to local surf coaches to support the development of Channel Island talent.
The first coaching grant from UK Sport-funded GB Surfing was awarded last year to Jake Powell at the Jersey Surf School.
This year, it is going to Dan Harris and Max Bennett at the Surfyard in Jersey.
They will run the national training programme that aims to prepare young surfers for inclusion in the GB Progression Squad.
The goal is to develop talent capable of competing for medals at the Brisbane Olympics in 2032.
Arlene Maltman, Director of GB Surfing and representative of Channel Islands interests on the GB Surfing board says: “We have always punched above our weight in competitive surfing.
"Despite the challenges posed by our tides and conditions here on the Island, we have a legacy of talent who have gone on to win major competitions.
“This funding will help local surfers grow and develop their skills through affiliation with GB Surfing’s network of support and a coaching programme tailored to local conditions.”
Dan Harris said: “We are extremely grateful to GB Surfing for this significant investment in Channel Island surfing."
