205 freight trailers arrive following Storm Austen

Stock levels at Jersey's supermarkets should be getting back to normal after Storm Austen affected supplies arriving on-island late last week.

DFDS says 85 freight trailers arrived on Saturday, with 120 more getting here this morning (Monday).

Storm-force winds prevented ferry arrivals on Thursday and Friday.

Stena Vinga and Caesarea Trader arrived in St Helier early this morning, with Stena Vinga docking at around 3:30am to discharge and load freight before being followed by Caesarea Trader.

The two vessels are now returning to Portsmouth to collect more freight prepare and prepare for regular services to resume.

High-speed ferry Tarifa Jet is heading to St Malo, with the Jersey to France service scheduled to resume on Monday evening.

Chris Parker, DFDS Route Director for Jersey, said:

"Despite the difficult conditions over the past few days, we have been able to maintain the movement of essential supplies into Jersey, with significant volumes of freight arriving on Saturday and again this morning.

"This has required considerable planning and close co-operation between our crews, shore teams, Ports of Jersey, Portsmouth International Port, stevedores, customs and our freight customers, and I would like to thank everyone involved for their efforts.

"We also appreciate the patience of passengers whose travel plans have been affected. Our focus now is on restoring regular services as quickly as weather conditions allow."

Although conditions have improved, Tuesday's Stena Vinga has been cancelled because of high wave heights in the Channel.

DFDS says it expects normal services to resume from Wednesday, operational conditions and weather permitting.

Passengers are asked to check the latest sailing information before travelling, as schedules may still be subject to change.

Work continues across the island to clear debris and make areas safe

Val de la Mare reservoir is back open today, but Jersey Water says Queen's Valley won't reopen until later this week because of storm damage.

A yellow tide warning is in force this evening, with conditions likely to bring strong waves and sea spray in coastal areas.
