£4.2m refurbishment of town flats complete

A £4.2 million refurbishment of St Paul's Gate in St Helier has been completed.

Jersey Homes Trust has transformed 17 homes next door to De Gruchy department store over 12 months.

Improvements include a new roof, windows, bathrooms and fire and safety systems. Balconies have also been added.

Enhancements have also been made to the communal areas, parking and storage.

Tenants, who were relocated during the work, are now moving back into the properties.

Jersey Home Trust says the investment is part of a wider commitment to improve its housing stock, with work recently completed on Warren Court in St Lawrence and an upgrade in progress at Le Coie at Springfield.

JHT provides 800 homes to tenants in Jersey. St Paul's Gate was the first property it acquired in 1995.

Phil Le Cornu, JHT Chair, says a refinancing arrangement in 2024 has given it the capability to continue its modernisation programme:

"We are not simply maintaining our properties; we are reinvesting in them to create homes that are more comfortable, energy efficient and sustainable for our residents, both now and for generations to come.

"The project has been delivered with a focus on both the immediate needs of residents and the long-term sustainability of the development, ensuring St. Paul’s Gate is equipped to provide high-quality social housing for many years to come."

Housing Minister Deputy Malcom Ferey visited the flats earlier this month and praised the 'vastly improved' area.
