71 New Covid Cases Since Friday

71 new cases of coronavirus have been found in Jersey since Friday 25 June.

24 of them were people seeking healthcare, 23 were people travelling into the island, and 22 were picked up through contact tracing.

It brings the number of known active cases to 172.

118 of them have symptoms.

They are all isolating in the community. No-one is being treated for Covid-19 in hospital.

1,779 people have been identified as direct contacts.

Jersey's top medics have met today to decide whether the rules should be changed for children identified as direct contacts of coronavirus cases.

Hundreds of youngsters are isolating for ten days as a result of being in close contact with a positive Covid case.

Many of the active cases are among schoolchildren. Three more cases were found in schools last Friday. One is a JCG pupil and two go to Victoria College.

STAC is also considering offering lateral flow tests to younger secondary school children.

Meanwhile, more than 69,000 people in Jersey have had at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

As of Wednesday 23 June, nearly 52,000 islanders have had both.

Nearly half of 18 to 29-year-olds have had their first jab.
