Bailiff Opens Ukraine Appeal

Jersey's Bailiff has launched an appeal to co-ordinate funds to support the people of Ukraine.

Tim Le Cocq says The Bailiff's Ukraine Appeal will allow islanders to 'stand in solidarity' with the victims of Russian aggression, with donations supporting Ukrainian people caught up in the conflict.

“Islanders are generous people and already we have seen a tremendous outpouring of support for the people of Ukraine.

‘The Russian invasion of a peaceful European country and its use of indiscriminate force against civilians has shocked Jersey, which knows only too well the impact of Occupation. Islanders are already doing what they can to help the people of Ukraine, and this Fund will help direct their generosity to those who need it most.” - Tim Le Cocq, Bailiff of Jersey.

The money raised will be distributed by Jersey Overseas Aid.

Jersey Side-By-Side - the charity set up in the wake of the 2004 Tsunami - will process donations for tax relief, meaning an extra 25 pence for every £1 that is given.

“Jersey Overseas Aid is in close contact with the main humanitarian agencies operating in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, and will ensure that all money collected for Ukraine will be spent as effectively and efficiently as possible. Jersey will not stand silently by as this appalling tragedy unfolds.” - Deputy Carolyn Labey, Minister for International Development.

How to donate:

by cheque - payable to ‘The Bailiff’s Ukraine Appeal’ and sent to Royal Court House, Royal Square, St Helier, Jersey, JE1 1BA

by e-form on the government website – www.gov.je/appeal

by donation to Side by Side in order to receive the tax benefit of charitable donations.
