Car Seen Doing Burnout Hits Pedestrian

A pedestrian has suffered 'substantial injuries to his side' after being hit by a car near St John's Church last night (18 June).

A grey Hyundai hatchback was seen doing a burnout - where the car is at a standstill while the tyres spin - on La Route du Nord at around 11:45pm before hitting the pedestrian and leaving the scene.

The pedestrian was treated in hospital and was released in the early hours of this morning.

A 21 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He is being spoken to by officers.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw what happened, saw the vehicle immediately before the incident, or has dashcam footage of it.

Anyone with information can call the police on 612612 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
