Covid Emergency Powers Extended Until April

Deputy Richard Renouf in the States Chamber

Emergency powers given to officials in Jersey to enforce Covid restrictions will remain in place until at least the end of April 2022.

It's after States Members voted to extend the legislation for the third time.

They allow the government to introduce measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19 or contain any possible future outbreaks.

That includes requiring people to self-isolate when they first arrive in the island, as well as enforcing social distancing - should measures be recommended by the government's medical advisors, the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC).

The Health Minister, Deputy Richard Renouf, told States Members restrictions will only be re-introduced if they are absolutely necessary:

"Most of this legislation is currently suspended, but we are simply asking for the renewal of the ability to bring it back should circumstances require."
