Electric car charger grant to end in December

Applications for a government grant towards the cost of installing an Electric Vehicle charging point will close in December.

The incentive was initially £350, and was doubled to £700 in August 2025.

The chargers have been available to households, and also to businesses - which could apply for up to ten to encourage the move to electric fleets.  Charities are also eligible.

The government said the scheme reflected its 'commitment to supporting sustainable transport and reducing emissions'.

The EVCI will close on 13 December, along with grants for a Home and Non-Domestic Energy Audit.

The government has confirmed financial help to switch to low carbon heating is being extended to 2030.

The Low Carbon Heating Incentive provides homeowners up to £9,000 towards the cost of installing electric heating or air source heat pumps.  For lower income households, the help is up to £15,000.

Environment Minister Senator Mary Le Hegarat, said:

" The extension of the Low Carbon Heating Incentive to 2030 provides certainty for homeowners and businesses, with investment being put into more efficient heating systems, as well as the development of local skills.

"I'd like to encourage anyone who is considering applying for the Electric Vehicle Charger Incentive, or an energy audit of their home or business, to do so well before the December deadline."
