Essential work to begin on Springfield Stadium

Work will start this summer on upgrading and refurbishing the Springfield Stadium Grandstand.

The Grandstand, which is nearly 30 years old, has an exposed structure comprising of steelwork that will be stripped and repainted - there'll also be work done on:

  • Replacing the side panel glazing
  • Upgrading emergency lighting
  • Roof repairs

A detailed inspection and recent reports have confirmed the need for the work to 'preserve the future of the facility'.

The government said:

"Planned works are designed to extend the life of the building by a further 30 years, this investment is critical to maintaining the ongoing operation of the Island's stadium."

The Grandstand seating and the pitch will be closed throughout the work, with discussions ongoing between the government, Jersey Bulls, and the Jersey FA on how to manage the impact this will have on fixtures and activities.

The government added:

"The café, gym, nursery and clinical services, may experience some disruption in relation to reduced parking and access. However, all businesses are expected to remain open throughout the work.

"We will continue to engage with stakeholders and the public to minimise disruption."

The work is due to start in June and be completed by September.

Channel 103 has asked the government how much it will cost.
