Filming underway for Bergerac Series 3

There's a chance of stumbling across camera crews around Jersey this week, as series three of Bergerac is being filmed in the island.

The filming schedule has created a bit of a buzz, with some roads closed while the tapes roll.

On Tuesday night (15 September) it was the Tunnel that was shut for an hour from 7pm - a big hint that it will feature in the next episodes of the TV detective drama.

St Helier Honorary Police took to social media to explain they were on scene to ensure the smooth and safe filming.

"Filming took place inside the Tunnel around dusk, allowing the production team to make the most of the lighting conditions needed for the scenes being captured. 🎬

"We thoroughly enjoy working alongside the Bergerac production team and all those involved behind the scenes, and we’re looking forward to seeing Jersey showcased once again on the national stage. 🇯🇪📺

"We can’t reveal what was being filmed though… you’ll just have to watch Season 3 to find out! 😉"

Action this week has also been captured near Jersey Museum and Waterloo Street near the Central Market.

Channel 103 reporter Amelia Averis was on set, chatting to director Paul Wilmshurst about what is to come for Jim Bergerac, played by Damien Moloney, in the next instalment of the reboot of the popular 1980s show. He told us about a plotline involving a fictious cold case dubbed the 'Devil's Hole murder'.

"There was a legendary murder, which happened some years ago, and a body was found in a cave on the beach, and the trappings of some kind of terrible ritual.

"It wasn't solved at the time, and now something happens in the present day that brings that case back to life.

"Jim and the team are trying to work out was there a conspiracy, was there some kind of leader, and also there is a sense of all of those people who were teenagers back then now have lives to protect."

Also on set this week are ten young Jersey residents with aspirations in the TV industry, who have gained positions as paid trainees, filling various roles on the production team.

One of them, Fin Lumsden, told us:

" The biggest privilege is being able to be working in Jersey on a film set, because it is just that rare.

"It is nice to be able to leave my house, come into town and be doing exactly what I want to do. It's just an amazing feeling."

Series 2 averaged 1.6 million viewers across its six episodes, while Series 1 has added to the BBC 2 Friday primetime TV schedule this summer, and the BBC iplayer.

Visit Jersey credits the programme with an uptick in interest from holidaymakers in coming to the island.

Series 3 is expected to air on UK TV in 2027.
