Gas prices in Jersey are rising by 3.8% from this Sunday, 1st September.
Jersey Gas says it will add around £35 a year to the average bill.
The utility company says the price rise is because of the fall in the value of the pound against the dollar pushing up its costs - largely caused by economic uncertainty surrounding Brexit.
However, it says bills are still around £12 a year cheaper than they were five years ago.
It has also announced the removal of the banded standing charge for domestic central heating customers.
The company's Managing Director, Ian Plenderleith, says to try and give customers as much control over their bills, they're reversing a move in 2016 which saw price bands introduced:
“We will be removing the banded standing charge system for domestic central heating customers from 1 January 2020, to further help our customers better manage their bills. This will mean that all of our central heating customers will be put onto the lowest standing charge rate, which will be £134 per annum. This change will significantly reduce the fixed proportion of customers’ bills, enabling the vast majority of our customers to have greater control over their heating bills.”
