Former restaurateur and convicted rapist Gavin Roberts has admitted fraud and forgery.
The former owner of Shinzo in St Aubin appeared in Jersey's Royal Court today (8 August), where he pleaded guilty to four counts.
The deceptions are said to have happened over a four year period - between 2018 and 2022 - and total more than £700,000.
The restaurant closed in 2022 owing thousands of pounds.
Today's guilty pleas follow a complex investigation by the Joint Financial Crimes Unit.
A spokesperson said:
"This was a long and complex investigation which has resulted in Roberts admitting to deliberately deceiving victims, all of whom suffered not only financial hardship but also emotional distress.
"This case highlights the devastating impact fraud can have on victims. We commend their courage in coming forward and for their cooperation throughout the investigation.
"Today’s guilty plea is a step toward justice, and we hope it brings some measure of closure to those affected."
Roberts (46), who is currently serving 15 years in prison for rape and other offences - including assault, will be sentenced for his financial crimes on 25 September.
