Islanders Advised On Avoiding Bowel Cancer

We're being urged to make simple lifestyle and dietary changes to keep our bowels healthy.

The advice comes during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, encouraging more people who receive an invitation to attend a screening.

685 islanders went to one last year. 62 high-risk polyps, which had the potential of developing into cancer, were removed.

Consultant gastroenterologist, Dr David Ng, says making a few changes can help keep us healthy:

"Simple changes can make a big difference to ensure you keep your bowel healthy. Things like eating plenty of fruit and vegetables, fibre and limiting the amount of red meat you eat and the amount of alcohol you drink, as well as keeping a healthy weight can all help you keep your bowel healthy."
