Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan has thrown Jersey's hat in the ring to host Island Games 2035.
A letter of intent is currently in the works, which will ask the event body if the island can host the games in 11 years' time.
The Island Games bring together competitors from 24 islands - from Åland to Ynys Môn - to put their sporting skills to the test.
Guernsey was home to last year's games, which saw Jersey pipped to the post by the host team, who won 54 golds. Jersey came second, taking home the top prizes 41 times.
If the bid is granted by the International Island Games Association, a proposition to bring the event to Jersey will then put to the States Assembly.
Constable Jehan says the application is being made so far in advance to give the island time to bring its facilities up to scratch:
"We've got a lot to do before this becomes a reality. We have a proposal to bring to the States Assembly to try and get the States' support.
"The reason it's 2035 and not earlier is to give us time to build infrastructure, both sporting infrastructure and accommodation.
"Recently there was a proposal in Broad Street that was passed, giving us 103 additional rooms, and I'm aware of more potential plans for hotel accommodation.
"In terms of sporting (facilities), we need to upgrade the athletics and swimming facilities, to name but two. We've got a lot of work to do. We've got to raise a lot of capital, but it is quite exciting.
Jersey last hosted the games in 2015.
"That was a fantastic week. Last year, I went to Guernsey for the week to experience the games and that was fantastic, all the community got behind the games.
"I hope that the Jersey community will once again embrace the Island Games, our athletes and all the athletes that take part."
