Robin Boleat has been named International Porter of the Year for his work in the health industry.
The General Hospital porter has worked with patients, doctors and nurses for more than 16 years and was surprised with the honour by his colleagues.
They decided to sign him up for the accolade for the work he does.
Robin says at first he was confused and had no idea he had been put forward for the award.
"I was totally flummoxed when they said I'd be shortlisted.
"It's wonderful that the portering team get some recognition for our work at the hospital. We're a team, so this is for me and everyone that works here - it's also nice that Jersey Hospital gets some international recognition."
The new International Porter of the Year works on the frontline with patients, moving them from A to B.
He also assists doctors and nurses by helping them with everything they need.
Robin says it is very rewarding and he has enjoyed every minute of it.
"You might imagine working in a hospital gets a bit grim, but you feel you're helping people in their time of need.
"I love helping out in maternity, or anywhere really."

When asked how he puts a smile on patients' faces, Robin joked that 'one can overdo it'.
"I try just to be as helpful and kind as possible.
"You might compliment something they're wearing or something they're doing, or sympathise with them.
"Just come across as a human being, someone who's there as a friendly face.
"They can often be quite scared (about being in hospital) so with me it's a little bit of humour, you can often put a smile on someone's face with a bit of a chuckle."
