Jersey's politicians will be asked to agree on the date of the next general election, which could be a Sunday.
The Privileges and Procedures Committee is proposing the general election is held on Sunday, 7 June 2026.
Research has found that a weekend vote is popular in jurisdictions with high voter turnout.
The Chair of the Committee, Connétable Karen Shenton-Stone, says Sundays are the preferred day for the electorate in places with high voter turnouts.
"The Committee believes that weekend voting will make it easier for Islanders – especially working people and students – to vote.
"It enables locations such as schools to be used as polling stations and gives families the chance to take their children to the polling station and show them democracy in action.
"Real democracy is when all adults have an equal opportunity to vote, and we need to explore ways to level the playing field if we want ours to function well."
Only 44% of voters go to Jersey's polls, according to data from the past 30 years.
This rose slightly to 44.7%, in 2022.
A report also found that weekday votes disadvantage full-time workers and students, in Jersey.
53% of voters were over 65 and just 17% between 16 and 34.
States Members are due to debate the proposition on Tuesday 1 April 2025.
