More pre-poll but fewer postal voters

More people have voted early in person than in the 2022 election, but there have been fewer advance ballots cast overall.

The number of people who've voted early in person in this year's Jersey general election has almost doubled compared to 2022.

2,795 cast their ballot at the pre-poll station at St Paul's Centre, up 85% on the last election.

However, around 1,000 fewer people choose a postal vote, and so advance voting is only up 7%.

Postal voting applications reduced to 1,729, from 2,709 in 2022, down by 36%.

The pre-poll station was open from 26 – 29 May and 1 June.

Rebecca Morley-Kirk, Judicial Greffier, said: “We are really encouraged to see this increase in the number of Islanders voting ahead of Election Day and hope the trend continues when it comes to overall turnout this Sunday, 7 June.”

Election day is this Sunday, when polling stations will be open from 8am until 8 pm.
