More public BBQ sites closed due to wildfire risks

Public BBQ sites at St Catherine, La Crete and Pine Walk have been closed because of wildfire risks.

The Parish of St Martin says it's due to the continued dry weather.

Fires and BBQs are also prohibited at La Mielle de Morville National Park and all Jersey Water sites, including Val De La Mare reservoir.

Mark Bowden, Head of Water Resilience and Emergency Planning at Jersey Water, said:

"Our reservoirs are there for everyone to enjoy and for nature to flourish, but the current dry conditions and increasingly strong winds mean even a small act of carelessness could have serious consequences.

"Wildfires can cause significant damage, put wildlife and public at risk and require substantial emergency efforts and water to get under control.

"We need everyone to take extra care and act responsibly, both at our reservoirs and elsewhere across Jersey."

Jersey Water is urging people to avoid excess water use, given the ongoing dry weather.

There have been wildfires in Guernsey, Sark, and the UK, with huge flames leading tens of thousands of people to have to evacuate their homes in parts of France and Spain.
