Mourners No Longer Told To Stay Apart

Physical distancing will no longer be advised at funerals in Jersey from tomorrow (26 May)

Mourners can attend without staying 1-2 metres apart, meaning more people wil be able to attend services.

There is no limit on the number allowed, but if more than 50 people are there, masks have to be worn.

Health Minister Deputy Richard Renouf says this is only possible due to the continued support from people who are getting their vaccines and following Covid guidelines.

"Following careful consideration, and on the advice of the Medical Officer for Health, I am pleased that we are able to amend the guidance on physical distancing at funerals. Doing so will increase the capacity within churches and the Crematorium, therefore allowing more people to attend.

“Due to the special nature of funerals, I am sure many Islanders will welcome this change to public health guidance which has only been possible due to the continued support from the community who are consistently attending their vaccination appointments and adhering to Covid-19 guidelines.”
