Visualising populations worldwide can be challenging, but a new exhibition coming to Jersey this week aims to simplify that - using a store-cupboard staple.
ArtHouse Jersey's Captial House is hosting 'Of All The People In All The World: Jersey' from Wednesday (18 September) until 6 October.
The renowned exhibition by Stan's Cafe, a theatre company from Birmingham, uses grains of rice to represent different populations, statistics and data.
Past representations include how many people have been on the moon and how many people suffered deaths during the Holocaust.
Head of the programme, James Tyson, says when you see the different stats put together it can be quite humbling.
"There you are looking over these grains of rice, up high in a way, and even (with) the biggest of statistics, you're kind of standing over them - as if you have some sort of authority, and it can be quite moving seeing things in this way.
"They have this very simple way of equating one human being with a grain of rice, and you start seeing these piles of rice where you see: what do three million people look like? Or, what does 20 people look like?"
Opening times for the exhibition are 10.30 am to 6.00 pm Tuesday to Sunday.
