New Marina Pod Designs Submitted

The planning application for six one-bedroom floating pods in St Helier Marina has been submitted.

Ports of Jersey wants to create more accommodation for visitors and locals, enabling more connection with the harbour.

It wants to attach them to the new L-shaped pontoon near the Lifeboat Cafe.

The pods primarily target people arriving at the harbour in RIBs and other boats without cabin facilities. However, everyone is invited to book to stay.

The floating pods allow islanders to experience the marina without owning a boat, creating a new, unique, in-island experience.

Head of Maritime Operations, Louise Stafford, says this is an exciting development.

"[It] would diversify the facilities in St Helier Marina and offer alternative accommodation for both visiting sailors and residents.

"The area is too shallow for large yachts, so this is a great way to help the blue economy and add to Jersey’s tourism offering."

Each factory-made pod will have nautical-inspired structures with small decks and different colour schemes.

They will also be connected to the mains with running water and waste removal.

The accommodation numbers will be painted on the roofs so visitors can identify their pods from above.

PoJ announced its intention for the pods in July, saying an alternative storage area for the barge platform currently house in the area will be identified.
