A Jersey Company that distributes the national newspapers to Guernsey will not receive further funding to do so.
Guernsey's Economic Development Committee has rejected a request from Jersey's Iris Freight for financial support.
It's President, Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Millar says 'public financial support would not be appropriate or sustainable' given industry‑wide price rises and a declining newspaper readership:
“While we recognise and value the service Iris Freight has provided over many years, the challenges it faces are structural and industry‑wide.
"In addition, the Committee concluded that Government financial support intended to subsidise newspaper distribution would risk undermining impartiality of the local media and would therefore not be appropriate."
The Jersey company has been delivering the national newspapers to Guernsey for around a decade.
The impact this will have on it is currently unknown.
