With strong winds forecast this weekend, Jersey's fire service is urging islanders not to light any bonfires.
An open land fire broke out near the desalination plant at Corbiere earlier this week, which spread quickly because of the wind.
Jersey Water said it came 'dangerously close' to damaging its desalination plant, which was switched on a short time later to boost water supplies.
Gusts of up to around 45mph are expected over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Station Commander Chris Smith said:
"With the high winds, and tinder-dry ground, fires can spread rapidly, and it can impact on houses, it was close to the desalination plant.
"Many wildfires are preventable and often caused by everyday activities such as disposable barbecues, discarded smoking materials, and litter.
"We're asking everyone to always used disposable barbecues in a safe and responsible manner, do not light bonfires due to that increased risk of open land fires, dispose of smoky materials safely, dispose of litter safely, and if you do spot anything, call 999 immediately."
