Police Vans Become Moving Billboards

Two Jersey Police vans have been turned into moving billboards to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the support available to victims.

It is part of the Safeguarding Partnership Board and States of Jersey Police's campaign, #SpotTheRedFlags.

Two vans have been wrapped with a 'striking' advert with a powerful message and contact information for support services.

"Domestic abuse is not just physical. It's psychological, emotional, financial, and sexual. Coercive control is a pattern of intimidation, degradation, isolation, and control with the use or threat of physical or sexual violence."- SoJP.

It follows a recent week-long initiative to raise awareness for sexual abuse and violence.

Police confirmed that reports of rape increased by 28% last year.

Superintendent Detective Alison Fossey said all the agencies involved in these types of crimes are committed to making sure victims get a safe, non-judgemental and caring service.

"We know the system isn’t perfect and we have improvements to make.

We will and are doing better; last year alone saw eight convictions in the courts."

A recent report into Violence Against Women and Girls revealed three-quarters of people surveyed had suffered sexual harassment within the previous 12 months. One in four said they had experienced rape or attempted rape.
