Two Jersey rowers have been rescued after their boat capsized in St Aubin’s Bay.

The coastguard received a mayday call at around 8:40am on Sunday 10 April.

The Jersey Sea Cadets were first on scene at around 8:45am and pulled one of them to safety, but the other person was still in the water as their foot was trapped.

The St Helier inshore lifeboat then arrived around five minutes later, with one of the crew getting into the water to free him and get him to safety.

Both received treatment for cold water exposure, taken back to St Helier Harbour and then checked over by paramedics.

The water temperature was cold at 10°C. RNLI Jersey says anyone going out to sea should always be prepared for cold water, even if they have no plan to actually go into the water.

Jersey Rowing Club captain Stuart Richford and Andy Jennett were the two rowers rescued.

In a post on Facebook, Stuart says they're both OK and it ironically happened an hour before he was due to give a safety brief at the club.
