Authorities have given details of why a large search operation was launched in St Aubin's Bay on Monday night.
The alarm was raised following an unconfirmed report of what appeared to be a man walking into the sea wearing clothes, at around 7.45pm on 20 February.
Jersey Coastguard, police and ambulance attended, and the Fire Service rescue boat and RNLI lifeboat were launched.
Air Rescue Channel Islands launched its drone and officers and firefighters with torches scoured the coastline.
Nothing was found and the search operation was stood down after two hours.
