Swimarathon Total: £78k And Counting

Nearly £80,000 has been raised in this year's Swimarathon.

418 teams swam a total of 21,296 laps.

The Lions Club, which has been organising the event for the past 50 years, says it's delighted with the result so far - with more sponsorship money still to come.

The 2022 event got underway on Wednesday 9 March.

Across five days islanders of all ages have taken to the pool at Les Quennevais to raise money for charity.

The main beneficiary this year is Maison des Landes where a new community hub is being created.  Plans for the £2.5m centre were unveiled last year.

£78,166 has been counted so far, which does not include sponsorship from Ravenscroft.

“It was a wonderful event with swimmers of all ages and abilities.  The common factor was that everyone left the pool hall with a huge smile on their face. It was a truly uplifting experience to be involved.” - Steve Taylor, chairman of the Lions organising committee.
