Tadier Sorry For 'Sacking' Email

Reform Jersey says Deputy Montfort Tadier has 'apologised unreservedly' to the senior health official who he said should be sacked in an email.

He's been suspended as an Assistant Minister for breaking the Ministerial Code of Conduct.

The St Brelade deputy's responsibility in Economic Development has been taken away until the middle of May after the incident, which the Chief Minister called 'wholly inappropriate'.

The Privileges and Procedures Committee is meeting tomorrow to decide whether to refer the matter to the Commissioner for Standards.

In a statement, his party says Deputy Tadier has referred himself to the complaints panel, so it can be seen whether the States Members code of conduct has been breached.

"Deputy Tadier has acknowledged that it was inappropriate for him to suggest a civil servant to be removed from office in an email he was copied in to. He has apologised unreservedly to the employee in question.

"He has also agreed to refer himself to the Commissioner for Standards so that this matter can be independently looked at to establish whether any breach of the States Members code of conduct has occurred. We agree this is the correct course of action.

"Deputy Tadier remains a valuable member of the Reform Jersey Parliamentary Party, working hard for his constituents and islanders on a number of fronts, fighting for social justice and a fairer island."

His suspension remains in effect until the week starting the 20th May.
