Three New Covid Symptoms Added

A blocked nose is one of three new COVID-19 symptoms identified

A blocked nose, red eyes, and skin rashes have been added to the list of Covid-19 'accompanying symptoms.'

They aren't classed as 'main symptoms' though. They are still:

  • A high temperature
  • A new continuous cough
  • A loss or change of smell or taste

Anyone who develops any of the main symptoms should isolate immediately, along with the rest of their household, and call the coronavirus helpline.

The other 'accompanying symptoms' are:

  • Headaches
  • Tiredness
  • Muscle ache
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting and diarrhoea

A blocked nose, conjunctivitis, and skin rashes have been added to the 'accompanying symptoms' list.

Anyone who develops these and is worried they might have coronavirus should call the helpline.

"We urge Islanders to remain vigilant for COVID-19 symptoms and to bear in mind that anyone who’s recently developed nasal congestion, conjunctivitis or skin rashes could have the virus, although it is rare for COVID to occur without one of the three main symptoms.

"We are aware that the three new accompanying symptoms are common in young children and may not indicative of COVID.  However, if parents are concerned that their child has developed these new symptoms and do not seem themselves, they should discuss this with the COVID helpline." - Dr. Ivan Muscat, Deputy Medical Officer of Health.

The free coronavirus helpline number is 0800 735 5566.
