Contractors consider CCTV to protect staff from abuse by motorists.
There is an issue with driver abuse in both main islands, with some contractors in Jersey now wearing body cams.
We spoke to Tim Kaines, a contracts manager with Geomarine, which carries out work for the States, principally Guernsey Water.
He tells us his employees are sometimes being put into difficult situations.
"People go through no-entry signs and against one-way systems.
"Our employees will speak to these people and say you're not allowed to do that, and try and inform them that ultimately what they are doing is against the law.
"That can quite often result in them getting some abusive language or even threats of violence towards them."
He says there have been some more serious incidents.
"One of our employees spoke to a car that was coming through a closed road. He said you can't come through here, and the driver intentionally drove into him, then it became a police matter."
Tim says the issue is often raised at meetings with other contractors and utilities, and they are collectively investigating the practicality of using CCTV at the roadside to capture incidents.
