Guernsey's bus network revamped to improve reliability

Changes to Guernsey’s bus timetable, based on public feedback, aim to make services more reliable.

Following proposals from Stagecoach, endorsement from Environment & Infrastructure, and 'a substantial level of engagement with the community', Guernsey is getting a new bus timetable.

The States say the changes, which will come into effect on 7 September, aim to 'improve reliability and punctuality of service.'

The 51 and 52 services will become hourly Town Circular routes, Monday to Saturday, linking key destinations including the harbour, Beau Sejour, Les Ozouets Campus, Les Varendes High School and the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

Additional Sunday buses on the 91 and 92 Routes will run during the summer season.

The S1 to S4 evening bus services are being replaced with later journeys on existing routes.

All four night bus routes have been extended to improve overnight coverage across the island.

Routes considered 'low-use', including the P2 Parish Link and Route 60, will end.

Updated schedules will be added to bus stops over the weekend before the new services begin.

The website and the smartphone app will be updated on the day the routes and schedules change.

Until then, the new timetable can be viewed online.

Deputy Adrian Gabriel, President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure, says the new network has been designed for customer convenience.

"This new schedule delivers a more reliable and punctual service by improving access to key community destinations and giving customers greater confidence that they can depend on public transport to get where they need to be, when they need to be there.

"We are so grateful for the substantial engagement from the public during the consultation process, which has been integral to developing the 
work we have done with Stagecoach to implement these improved services.

"We are confident the changes will offer a service that’s better suited to people’s needs while ensuring they remain deliverable at no net additional cost.”

Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, Peter Knight, says after an adjustment period, passengers will find the new schedule helpful.

“We’re pleased to be working with the States of Guernsey to introduce these timetable changes, which are designed to improve reliability, punctuality and connectivity for our customers across the island.

"We recognise that changes to services and timetables can take a little time to settle in, and we would ask customers to bear with us over the weekend of 5th and 6th September and on Monday 7th September as the updated information and schedules are put in place at bus stops.

"We encourage customers to check the new timetable before travelling and thank them for their patience and understanding as the new services get underway.”
