Islanders have sent hundreds of messages of support on the owners of Octopus, after fire wrecked the St Peter Port restaurant early on Saturday morning (24 February).
Owners Mike and Delphine Pesrin-Auder posted an initial message on their business' Facebook page, saying they were devastated by the fire, which raged most of the morning on Saturday and continued to smoulder into the early evening.
The couple vowed to rebuild and have since been inundated with comments of sympathy and support:

A drizzly dawn yesterday revealed the extent of the damage.
The building has a valley roof which divides it in two. The section that runs parallel to the road is warped and there's an extensive hole in the middle of it. Slates are missing or displaced and what looks like bundles of straw insulation are singed. The parking spaces outside are covered in fallen debris.

A Police and Fire car were parked in the road at La Vallette and fire officers and crew were examining the scene. The road subsequently re-opened.
An investigation into the cause of Saturday's fire continues.
