£68K North Coast Path Opens

A new path on the North Coast from Ronez Quarry is opening today (16 February).

The route stretches a kilometre east from Ronez Quarry, meaning islanders will no longer need to walk along La Route du Nord near Les Fountaine.

Construction of coastal footpaths started in the 1980s, but the section from the quarry was never completed.

Islanders will now have the opportunity to walk down into the valleys and woods to enjoy what nature has to offer.

The Minister for the Environment, Deputy Steve Luce, says coastal footpaths are integral to Jersey and its natural character:

"This new section links to an existing path and will significantly enhance the walking experience by taking out the need to walk along the roadside pavement.

Around 40% of people in Jersey use the island's footpaths at least once a week.

£68,000 has been taken from the Covid Recovery Fund to pay for the path's completion.

The path is only suitable for hikers and runners, those on mountain bikes or horseback will have to use the diversion to La Route du Nord.
